April 2026 marked one year since Ruth returned to Zurich from the west coast of the US. Originally from Chicago, Ruth is an interior designer and fashion stylist who discovered her passion for design while renovating and furnishing apartments she bought in her hometown. At age 26 she moved to Zurich for the first time, along with a Swiss man she’d met in the US a few years earlier. Living in Europe felt like coming home to Ruth, whose parents had lived in Munich while her opera-singer father worked there. She decided to study fashion at Mode Design Schule Zurich (Swiss Fashion Academy), where she increased her fluency in High German as well as Swiss German. Along the way, Ruth also spent a year living in Paris while working as a fashion stylist before moving to California in 2013 to pursue an unmissable career opportunity.
In recent years, with her California-native husband, she decided to move back to Switzerland. Originally the plan was to move to Geneva, but through a twist of fate the door was opened to return to Zurich. Now living in Küsnacht, Ruth enjoys taking the train or boat to Tiefenbrunnen and walking a circuit of her favorite streets and sites in the city of Zurich. For Ruth, the beauty of the built environment here provides inspiration as well as enjoyment. As a designer and stylist, she loves to help people understand why designs work in specific situations and how to gain this insight for themselves and is currently working on a book on this subject.u!
