By now the question of where I’m “from” can be complicated! British by birth and American by choice, I met my American wife in London and moved with her to California, where we lived for 21 years. During that time, I became a naturalized US citizen.
We’ve been in Switzerland since 2015, when I came here for work, though it was also a good opportunity to be closer to my family in the UK. I really enjoy living in Switzerland, not only because things are so clean and organized, but also because of the many opportunities to be active outdoors – running, hiking, mountain biking, skiing and, most recently, stand-up paddleboarding. I learned some German at school and university in England and continue to work on improving my language skills. Of course, I appreciate the chance to get together with fellow English speakers from both sides of “the pond”.
I’ve been a member of AICZ for a year and find it a fun group with a great variety of people with interesting stories and perspectives to share. I look forward to meeting more members at future events. At the moment, my biggest challenge is finding a new job. I have a Master’s Degree from Imperial College London in electrical engineering and have spent my career in technology, most recently in commercial roles managing large, complex technology contracts. I have lots of energy and ideas to offer the right organization. If anyone reading this has any suggestions or contacts I should know about, I’d be happy to hear from you!
